Christian Debt Services
Are you overwhelmed with the thought of paying off all your debt and considering a Christian debt service?
My advice – don’t do it. I originally started this site to write about the various Christian debt services that are available to help Christians get out of debt. But as I did more and more research I realized that:
1. There are many Christian debt services that are scams. They call themselves Christian to invoke a feeling of security but they do not run according to biblical principles.
2. Debt services in general should be a last resort for debt elimination. There are many downsides to these services and Christians should be able to avoid them.
Here are some of the Christian debt services you may have heard of:
• Christian Debt Counseling
• Christian Debt Consolidation
• Christian Debt Negotiation
While seeking the help of a Christian debt service provider may sound like a solution, you could end up with more problems than you had before. Each of these services come at a cost, especially to a Christian.
Debt counseling and negotiation will try to settle some of your debt with your creditors, convincing the creditors to accept less. This is not a road that a Christian should take as it is your responsibility to pay off all your debts. Debt consolidation will move all of your debt onto one loan with a single payment. But often the repayment terms are so low that it will take many years to get the loan paid off. In addition, any of the above methods could show up on your credit report, reducing your credit worthiness in the future.
There are some Christian organizations that can help you with managing your money using biblical principles, Crown Financial Ministries is one example. If you would like some guidance, look in your area for an organization like Crown or speak with your Pastor. A truly Christian organization should be able to provide you with free financial counseling to help you reach your debt free goal.
To truly conquer your debt, it is more important that you are committed to fixing your situation permanently. Eliminating your debt and remaining debt free will require you to change the behaviors that led to your current situation. This website is here to offer advice on both avenues - eliminating debt and improving your money management skills to obtain financial freedom.
